Rob's Rantings

Welcome! On this page you'll find my ranting about just about anything. Some of it might even be useful! Probably not though, most people think what I say is just useless dribble. I can't really argue with that though.

#11 - Things You Say

You get in trouble for the things you say not the things you think.

Netgear MP101

The wife got me the Netgear MP101 for my birthday this year. I just love the thing. I was really surprised to see a few negative reviews from customers on it. It works much more reliably on a wired network than it does on a wireless network with WEP encryption. That's really not surprising though considering the overhead of WEP and the 10 megabit limitation on wireless b to begin with.

Overall I'm truly happy with the product. I wanted it for the Rhapsody functionality mostly since I already had a streaming media player for the playstation. For the $149 (or less online) you can get the unit for it's well worth it. Once we move to the new house I'll probably get another unit also. It's fantastic to be able to link right into Rhapsody and listen to the same quality. It's got 2 RCA jacks and while there were plenty of people to point out it wasn't a digital connection out the back it shouldn't matter as it's still a 128Kbps WMA file that Rhapsody streams to you anyhow. What good is pure digital at that point? There much more loss in the WMA compression than there is in the RCA cable to your stereo. Just proves how "Commercial" people have come in the sense that they don't understand why things work, they just think bigger is better.

My recommendation is to get your hands on this unit and to signup with Rhapsody. Both are great products and if you love music it is the perfect gift.

#9: Good Programmers

#9: Good programmers are typically lazy people. They want to automate everything so they don't have to do it manually.

Just have any programmer push the same button more than 15 minutes and it will be automated faster than you can say "This process sucks".

Introspect: Jolly Ranchers

Who names a candy Jolly Rancher? Do they also sell a Rump Ranger?

Introspect: Dumb People

Am I getting smarter or is the world getting dumber. I do know one thing I become less tolerant of the stupid people in the world every day. What's worse is that the government keeps helping stupid people survive. "Seat Belt Law" - Who are they kidding? If you're not smart enough to buckle up it's your own fault. What's worse is that people still get tickets for it! I say, go ahead and have those people signup as crash test dummies. Obviously they don't think the crash will hurt them.

#7: If you dish it out be sure you can take it back.

One thing though is that if you're good enough at dishing it out you usually don't have to take it because someone doesn't want the quip coming back at them!

#2: Never eat anything bigger than your head.

Most of my friends instantly reply with "Well Rob, that doesnt leave much you can't eat.".

#3: Have a good sized ego, you never know when you're going to need it.

If you know your shit, people will respsect you no matter how big your head is. Just remember to give credit where it's due!

Robism #1

Ok, so you have to post a really good one for the first one right? If you don't are you doomed for failure? Youre obviously crazy if you think I care enough about what others think. To that end:

Travel To Clevland OH

Traveling to Clevland this week. Should just be a blast (not). Actually, will be working on our new project here at work which will be fun. Hate travel, it's always just a hassle. Hard to throw your whole life into a suitcase for a few days but somehow we always manage. The PDA and the new world of wireless communications makes travel much easier. It gets better every year but theres so much hassle and fees it still makes it a pain in the butt.

"The Terminal" looks to be a good movie coming up with Tom Hanks. I'm sure many people will relate to living in an airport. :)
